When someone truly cares about their work, they make an effort – not an excuse

Warriors don’t make excuses. They have no need to. Ego drives the excuse generator. If you tend to hang out at climbing gyms, or popular crags you must think that the currency of climbers is excuses. Too short, too old, too tired, worked out too hard yesterday, drank too much last night, I’m a girl, I’m a guy, I haven’t been climbing for weeks, etc, etc. If you can’t make it up a given climb on a given day it only means one thing.
If you can make an honest self-assessment then perhaps you will be able to discover the real reason or reasons why you performed at less than your expectations. Armed with reasons you at least have an opportunity to improve. Armed with excuses you have nothing.
Making excuses whatever they are, only serves to sooth the ego. If you can’t do something, then you can’t do something… end of story…move on. No one cares.
