When someone truly cares about their work, they make an effort – not an excuse

Don’t make excuses. You have no need to. Ego drives the excuse generator. If you tend to hang out at climbing gyms, or popular crags you must think that the currency of climbers is excuses. Too short, too old, too tired, worked out too hard yesterday, drank too much last night, I’m a girl, I’m a guy, I haven’t been climbing for weeks, bad haircut, etc., etc.  If you can’t make it up a given climb on a given day it only means one thing.

If you can make an honest self-assessment then perhaps you will be able to discover the real reason or reasons why you performed at less than your expectations. Armed with reasons you at least have an opportunity to improve. Armed with excuses you have nothing.

People should stop pissing and moaning about things and just go out and do stuff. Hard smart work is the only tool you need.

Making excuses whatever they are, only serves to sooth the ego. If you can’t do something, then you can’t do something… end of story…move on. No one cares.

  1. It was brought to my attention that I had already published this article previously. I could use the excuse that the topic is so important that it deserves a second go-around. No excuse… I fucked up.
